You really must consider your personality type before attempting to set up a business from home. If you’re a people person and like to have people around you to converse with throughout the day, working from home could soon become frustrating. For the most part, working from home means you spend a lot of time in your own company and may not talk to colleagues for days at time. Is Your Home Set Up for Business?

If you live with other people, you may find it difficult to concentrate on your work when they’re around. For example, trying to work on the living room dining table while your children run circles around you isn’t really conducive to a productive atmosphere. You’ll need a separate space where you can be sure you can get peace and quiet while you’re focusing on your work. Similarly, you’ll need to limit the amount of distractions around you. If you’re employed, you’ll need to discuss what makes the most sense with your employer. Although working from home can mean that some people are more productive, it can also mean that employees are out of the loop and isolated. There will be points when you’ll need to go into work to conversations face-to-face or to meet clients and discuss their needs. As an employee it’s often important to feel like you’re part of a team, and working from home on a full-time basis can often strip you of that feeling.

Can You Separate Business from Personal?

When you work outside of the home, coming home after a long day can immediately relax you. When you work from home, you don’t get the chance to have that same relief when the work is done. It’s difficult to think of your home as somewhere you can relax and somewhere you have to be productive. Without being able to separate the two, it can be easy to hold onto stress for longer than necessary.
